Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act
Required Landlord Disclosures in Virginia
What does it mean?
Under Virginia Law, landlords are required to disclose specific information, such as move-in checklists, identify anyone authorized to act on landlords behalf and information about whether there is any evidence of mold. See Va. Code Ann. ยงยง 55.1-1212, 55.1-1214 to 1219, 55.1-1223 (2020).)
Virginia landlords must also offer prospective tenants a statement of tenants rights and responsibilities as stated by the Department of Housing and Community Development.
When a lease agreement has been entered by both the tenant and landlord, all parties must sign a form acknowledging the tenant received the statement of tenant rights and responsibilities from the landlord. After the document has been signed a copy of the written rental agreements and statement of tenant rights and responsibilities will need to be provided within one month by the landlord.
